Curriculum

At the center of everything we do is a commitment to provide our students with a comprehensive education. Artesia Intermediate School has adopted the NM Common Core State Standards; we believe these standards give us several advantages and establish clear, consistent expectations for teaching methods and curriculum content.

Developed with the goal of helping NM state better prepare students for their futures when they graduate, the Common Core State Standards set a uniform level of expectations for all students across the state, regardless of their zip code or family circumstances.

Core Classes

Required courses of study include language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, physical education, health, and keyboarding. Currently, Common Core State Standards exist only for the language arts and mathematics curricula. New Mexico is developing standards for other core subjects, including science and social studies, for a future roll out.

Guidance Counselor

We encourage students to consult with the school guidance counselor. Please contact our counselor to set an appointment or to facilitate a meeting with all of your child’s teachers by calling the school office. Teachers may also refer students to the school counselor as needed.
